School Based Mediation PDF Print E-mail

CJI’s School Peer Mediation Program provides an opportunity for young persons, aged 12-17 attending school in Waterloo Region to take responsibility for harmful actions at school in a way that promotes healing for all involved.

The school program uses Peer Mediation or Family Group Conferencing to effectively deal with incidents that take place at school including minor assaults, fighting, stealing, vandalism, racial and cultural confrontations, relationship difficulties/harassment and gossip or rumors.  CJI trained and supervised student peer mediators provide mediation for less serious cases and CJI trained and supervised adult facilitators (from the school and community) facilitate family group conferencing for more serious cases.

The Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Youth Justice Division, fund this program.
