Revive/Survivor supports women, men, and youth who are healing from sexual trauma. The Revive program specifically supports people who have offended sexually in making safe, healthy choices.

How did Revive/Survivor begin?

Revive/Survivor began in 1982 when a few people who had been sexually abused found it helpful to get together and talk about their experiences. Community Justice Initiatives (CJI) gave them a place to meet and together they started a program that provided group support for women who had survived sexual trauma.

Revive/Survivor has since expanded to include group support for people who have offended sexually, as well as for families and groups affected by sexual trauma. Revive is known as a leader in helping all people affected by sexual trauma and continues to expand to meet community needs.

Moving Towards Healing Through Art is a peer support group for female survivors of sexual abuse and trauma.  The group allows women to express themselves creatively thorugh art, using paint to give voice to emotions.  Art can communicate what workds sometimes cannot.  The arts can empowere an transform lives.  Peer support groups help to reduce isolationa and offer a safe place to increase social supports and resources, and to learn and practice new skills.

This program is offered through Community Justice Initiative (CJI), a non-profit organiztion, known worl-wide as having started the first Restorative Justice Program.  CJI offers peer support groups for men and women impactec by sexual abuse and trauma.  Women's groups are offered in Kitchener and New Hamburg.

There is an art exhibit of pieces made by Moving Towards Healing Through Art grop members at Little Bean Coffee BAr in Kitchener until July 8, 2011.  Please click here for more details pdf CJI Art Exhibit Flyer 1.83 Mb
